5 Truths About God’s Love to Transform Your February
Lovebirds, teddy bears, roses, chocolate—February is filled with symbols of love. Some women embrace the celebration, while others would rather avoid it altogether. With so much focus on romance, it can be a difficult day for those wrestling with loneliness, comparison, or unmet expectations.
Yet beyond the fleeting emotions of human love, there is a greater love—a divine love—that surpasses all understanding. It is a love that does not fade with time, a love that remains steadfast through joy and sorrow, a love that is eternal.
I’m currently reading Have You Seen the One I Love? by Pope Shenouda III, a beautiful book about the soul’s deep longing for Christ, our Bridegroom. He writes:
“The soul that loves Christ loves to be alone with Him in seclusion… She seeks Him and searches for Him, asking, ’Have you seen the one I love?’” Pope Shenouda III
While the world searches for love in fleeting places, we are invited to seek the One whose love is unfailing—Jesus Christ.
So whether this month fills your heart with joy or feels like just another reminder of what’s missing, let’s take a look at five life-changing truths about God’s love—truths that can reshape the way we see February and every day.
Truth 1: God’s Love Is Unchanging
No relationship is perfect—whether it’s family, friendships, or your spouse. Sometimes we pour our hearts out and don’t get the same in return. Other times, we make mistakes that feel impossible to come back from. And let’s be honest—the people closest to us have the ability to hurt us the most.
That’s the reality of human love. It can be messy, conditional, and inconsistent. But God’s love? It never wavers.
"Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever." 1 Chronicles 16:34
On your best days, He loves you. On your worst days, He loves you just the same. When you feel unworthy, distant, or broken—His love never changes.
Truth 2: You Are Fully Known and Fully Loved
People may see glimpses of us, but God sees us in full.
Even those closest to us, can’t begin to understand us as intimately or intricately as God does.
Before you were born, He knew you. (Jeremiah 1:5). He knows the exact number of hairs on your head (Luke 12:7). He sees every moment – your sitting down, your rising up, and even the thoughts you haven’t spoken aloud (Psalm 139:2). Nothing is hidden from His sight (Hebrews 4:13), yet He still loves you.
“For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.” Psalm 139:4
His love isn’t based on how well you perform, how put-together you seem, or how many times you get it right. It’s steady. Unshaken. Secure. And that’s a love worth resting in.
Truth 3: God’s Love Fills the Void That No Relationship Can
The deepest longing of our hearts is not just for human affection but for divine intimacy. Earthly relationships, as wonderful as they may be, will always fall short of fully satisfying the soul.
Only God’s love can fill the void within us.
St. Augustine famously wrote:
“You have made us for Yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.” St. Augustine
Think of it like a box of chocolates. Human love can be sweet and delightful, but if we rely on it alone to fill us, we’ll always be searching for the "perfect" piece—only to find that some are hollow, others bittersweet, and none can truly satisfy forever. But God’s love? It’s the never-ending, richest kind of love—more fulfilling than we could ever imagine.
This longing for perfect love is beautifully expressed in Song of Solomon, where the bride cries out,
“Have you seen the one I love?” Scarcely had I passed by them, When I found the one I love. I held him and would not let him go. Song of Solomon 7:10
In Have You Seen the One I Love?, Pope Shenouda III interprets the Song of Solomon as a spiritual allegory of the soul’s love for Christ, our divine Bridegroom.
He shares how our soul desires intimacy with God but often experiences moments of distance, searching, and longing due to weakness or distraction.
Yet even then, our Bridegroom Christ is always calling, waiting, and drawing us back to His unfailing love.
Truth 4: God’s Love Empowers Us to Love Others
February is a reminder that love is meant to be shared. St. Basil the Great wrote:
“If you have found the joy of Christ, let others taste it too.” St. Basil the Great
We are not just recipients of divine love; we are called to reflect it, even towards those who are difficult to love.
The love of Christ compels us to forgive, to serve, and to shine as lights in a dark world.
When we abide in Christ, His love fills us to overflowing. But if we’re running on empty—seeking love in all the wrong places—we’ll find ourselves grasping instead of giving.
This February, let’s look for ways to extend God’s love—to our friends, family, and even the stranger in line at the coffee shop.
Because when God’s love is our foundation, we’re free to love fully, without fear.
"Freely you have received, freely give." Matthew 10:8
Truth 5: Nothing Can Separate You from God’s Love
Sweet sister, no matter what your month looks like, please know that nothing can separate you from God's great love. Struggles, heartbreak, or mistakes can never remove you from God’s love.
"For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38-39
You are already fully, completely, and unconditionally loved. The Creator of the universe sees you, knows you, and calls you His beloved.
And His love is better than anything this world could ever offer.
So, whether this month is filled with roses or heartache, let it be a time to rediscover the love of God—a love that is faithful, patient, and eternal.
Let your heart echo the cry of the Bride in the Song of Solomon:
"I am my beloved’s, And my beloved is mine." Song of Solomon 6:3
